I have dabbled with web development for a long time, making various websites here and there, and at times have been frustrated with how hard it can be sometimes to achieve simple things.
For example, not long ago, on one website I wanted to display a random image which would change each time the page was loaded. This proved to an absolute headache, not in the coding side of things, but in having a set of images which is easily changeable, and editable by more than one person. I am planning to create a module which will do exactly this.
On another site I wanted to provide a list of educational resources for different topics, but this list is constantly changing as I discover new resources. It is a hassle to edit each blog post as the list changes; much easier to do this in a google spreadsheet linked to the blog post. This is my first module, SimpleList.
My aim is to create a collection of modules/widgets/apps that you can easily install on your website or blog, absolutely free, and which use the power and flexibility of google spreadsheets as their backbone.
Right now I am working on SimpleList, which will display information from one of your google spreadsheets, as a list of items, on your website. Each list item contains a title, an image, a description or content, and a link. This list can be styled however you would like, and has a tiny code footprint, easily copied and pasted onto your blog.
The next module I will work on will be a random image (and possibly text) generator, based on a list of items provided in the linked google spreadsheet.
